Tilden Welch's Civil War Record The records for the Confederate Army are skimpy. They do show, however, that Tilden Welch served with the 21st Virginia Calvary. This unit was raised in localities where the draft was not enforceable. It was organized from companies which had been formed from the force know as the "Virginia State Line", in August of 1863. It was known as Peter's Regiment. Tilden was a private in Company K. He enlisted for 3 years on July 1, 1863, under Captain Robert Gleaves. He was listed as "deserted", four months later. (See below)
